Let’s dig deeper.
Because fur babies can’t always speak for themselves it is important to say upfront, when giving anything to your pet companion talk to your veterinarian about risks, side effects and any potential current medication interactions. When administering CBD to your pet monitoring them is crucial – if something seems not quite right with intended the results discontinue and regroup. Make sure the pet product isn’t packed with lots of artificial ingredients, heavy sugar, and/or tons of coloring (if any). Check for food grade toxins harmful to pets. For example, chocolate tastes delicious but it's not good for our furry friends. Most pet products are ingestible therefore you don’t want to add something that is counterproductive to your pet’s nutrition. Product quality just like it is for humans is key for our pets.
CBD does not get your pet high because like in humans the THC content is too low to induce a high effect. Oral forms of pet products are capsules, treats or tinctures.
Some CBD benefits for pets range from mood stabilization to managing physical ailments. For older animals addressing the chronic pain of arthritis through reducing inflammation by way of CBD can enhance your pets’ senior years. For serious pet conditions such as seizures using CBD can be a turning point to the quality of a pet’s life.
Reducing anxiety could be the most popular use of CBD for animals. Pet anxiety may show up as marking and urination throughout the home, destroying items, excessive barking/hissing, crying, pacing, panting, drooling, and/or aggression towards family or visitors. These types of behaviors can be heartbreaking for the pet and pet parent. No one wants to be faced with the tough decision of removing or letting the pet companion go. Having tools that can assist with calming your pet is a game changer. Starting off with the smallest dosage for your pet is a best practice. Again, you are looking for signs of progress and change in behavior and keenly monitoring for any side effects.
It may take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours to notice any initial changes or side effects with your pet therefore please allot a good amount of observational time when introducing CBD into your pet’s daily life. Monitor the pet’s weight, waste movements, appetite, socializing with other pets and human companions. These can be indicators of the effectiveness of your pet’s CBD regimen. You may need to increase, decrease, or keep dosage the same depending on fluctuations in these physical or behavioral changes.

In the CBD world topicals are usually the first introduction for the new consumers. They are readily available, and people have been using the non-CBD version of them for years; be it a cooling topical, heated version or combination of both. Topicals can be balms, salves, sprays, creams, oils, and adhesive patches. Topicals are used for pain relief, soothing of irritation, first-aid, healing burns and skin lacerations, and addressing a variety of dermatological conditions. Topicals have also been used to address headache by applying them directly to the head. Topicals can also be in a suppository form to address menstrual pain and can also enhance sexual intercourse through reducing possible pain.
A great emollient cream can activate the body’s own endocannabinoid system by way of the CB1 and CB2 receptors. Topicals have a unique way of doing this by accessing sensory nerve terminals and fibers. Cannabis has been used for skin conditions going back to the 1800’s perhaps even further. Dr. Henry Granger Piffard, notably the founder of the journal JAMA Dermatology wrote in his first book “a pill of cannabis indica at bedtime has at my hands sometimes afforded relief to the intolerable itching of eczema.”
The long-standing use of topicals is a great bridge for general working knowledge as to what topicals are and how they operate. Now throw in the additional ingredient of hemp and or cannabis and the risk of uncertainty presents itself. To that point a quick guide on how to sift through what topical is best can be helpful.
Always Ask – For more than one reference or recommendation. This can be especially true for those who are using topicals to address skin concerns. We wear our skin. Seems like a simple and oblivious fact that can be taken for granted. However, for the millions who suffer from visible skin condition no having clear pain free skin can severely impact one’s everyday life and mental health. For instance, if using to address acne it’s important to get a product that decreases sebum. Too much sebum mixed with dead skin cells can create acene. In that case looking for a topical that has CBD, THC, or combination of both along with low carrier ingredient may be the best topical for someone looking to address acne.
If you have access to a dermatologist speak with them about emerging alternatives to treating skin conditions. Medical marijuana does not just apply ingestible, smokable or vaporized products. For example, CBD and THC are known anti-inflammatory. Using an anti-inflammatory on skin conditions that inducing itching like eczema can be a beneficial analgesic. Hemp and cannabis derived topicals have used to treat conditions such as allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and melanoma.
Know What’s in It – Depending on what state you live and purchase your products in, the options can be as wide ranging as edibles, hemp and cannabis flower, or isolates. States where cannabis is legal for both medical and adult use, customers have access to CBD, THC, and CBD and THC combinations products. It’s important to remember that because topicals do not enter your bloodstream they more than likely do not produce intoxicating side effects from a THC-based topical. States that do not have legalized cannabis, customers may only have access to CBD topicals.
Because topicals a great for addressing localized pain and skin issues most CBD topicals work well for alleviate mild to moderate conditions. For more serve registration of pain and/or various conditions a person may choose a CBD/THC topical because THC is going to work in conjunction with CBD to increase results. If a person does not have access to THC based topicals then a highly potent CBD based topical could very well garner similar results.
Topicals do have a trial-and-error curve comparable to buying any type of other body product. Because of this factor price consideration should be top of mind. The best way to avoid buying misses is to have clarity on your needs, see if samples are available, buy the smallest size first, talk to your healthcare provider, ask the company or retailer about best practices.
Simple Things to Remember – Topicals take about 10-20 minutes to kick in and can last 2-3 hours. Think about usability meaning it’s always good to check for viscosity; is the topical easy to apply, does it stay on the skin a long time. Since topicals are worn checking for presence of aroma is important. Scent matters when deciding on what time of day to use a product. Cross-referencing the ingredients for any known allergies is imperative as to not create another problem while trying to solve a current concern.

]]>Terpenes are chemical compounds which appear in plants and various animals. These chemicals compounds occur naturally. Examples of plants and foods containing terpenes are tea or tea leaves, some citrus fruits, mangos, apples, beer – the list is long for there are 30,000 terpenes in nature. Plant terpenes function to attract pollinators and repel predators. For the human body terpenes have been known to relieve pain and produce calming effects. According to an article published, in November 2019, by the NIH (National Health Institute) terpenes in plants “contains many medicinal properties like anticancer, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, antihyperglycemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antiparasitic, antiplasmodial, astringent, digestive, diuretic, and many other properties.”
To make the connection on why terpenes are important a simple breakdown of different categories of products is useful to review.
Hempseed Oil, Isolate, Broad Spectrum, and Full Spectrum:
Products made with hempseed oil means– the product is made from the cold pressing of hemp seed not the complete hemp plant. This distinction is important if wanting the complete benefits of the cannabinoids in the whole plant and products made using the whole plant. While hempseed oil has some beneficial properties in the beauty and skincare space. Users should also know the hempseed oil does not contain any CBD.
An isolate has only one of the cannabinoids from the plant; for example, a CBD isolate has gone through a process of extraction, and it is in the purest form of the CBD compound. THC can also be produced in isolate form. THC and CBD are the most popular in the general market today, yet; that is changing as education surrounding cannabis and hemp grows.
Broad spectrum CBD has no traces or undetectable traces of THC, however, has other cannabinoids and terpenes in it. Broad spectrum does not produce the entourage effect because there is no or undetectable traces of THC.
Full spectrum CBD derived products have traces of all the natural cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Most CBD products are made from hemp plant which is in the Cannabaceae plant species family. Hemp plants be it sativa, indica or hybrid has less than .03% of THC. Unlike their counterparts, which most people refer to as marijuana, the THC level varies and is over .03% of THC. The plants are both the same species of plant, but the distinction comes based on the levels of THC in the plant or product. Full spectrum CBD products also contain terpenes found within the plant. Full spectrum CBD can produce the entourage effect.
Entourage Effect and terpenes:
The entourage effect is when various compounds in the cannabis plant work congruently and produce a greater benefit than if alone. Terpenes can work alongside the CBD and/THC to increase the benefits of the product. Why is this important when thinking about what products to choose when it comes the CBD or specific cannabis products a containing impactful level of terpenes may be of significant benefit. For example, the NIH published study by Current Neuropharmacology in February 2020 article looking at the entourage effect for treating patients with anxiety and/or depression the study concluded “The use of various cannabis-derived compounds opens the arena to the option of avoiding the adverse effects of the available antidepressants and mood stabilizers while treating mood disorders. This may be particularly important for patients who are non-responsive or non-adherent to conventional treatment.”
As more people seek out ways to live a pain-free life and not suffer in silence, they are discovering that one of the root causes of chronic pain is inflammation. In addition to this welcomed information people are learning that inflammation can be addressed with the usage of hemp and cannabis derived products. Products with a wide range of cannabinoids may be of great assistance when choosing what is best to achieve a life without or lessened chronic pain. A Karger research study in the journal of Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids they concluded “that terpenes/terpenoids may be used to diminute acute inflammation effect, whereas the cannabinoids to inhibit chronic inflammation symptoms. Anti-inflammatory potential of terpenes present in cannabis was studied by Downer”
Notable Terpenes:
Myrcene - Known for sedative properties, pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. Found in hops, guava, mango, lemongrass, and cannabis.
Humulene - Known for anti-inflammatory properties. Found in ginseng, sage and cannabis.
Linalool - Known for sedative properties, mood stabilization, anti-anxiety, antidepressant, pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. Found in rose, lavender, jasmine, basil, cinnamon, cannabis.
Limonene - Known for skin healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and calming effects. Found in citrus, cannabis and hemp plants.
Alpha-Pinene - Known for anti-anxiety properties. Found in parsley, dill, rosemary, some citrus, and cannabis.
These are a few examples of how cannabinoids and terpenes can assist with common but often unspoken health concerns. For decades usage of cannabis and cannabis derived products has been stigmatized and regulated to shadow parts of health and wellness circles which living in the shadows isn’t healthy to the greater good of the person (s) or research. As the hard evidence and research continues to be brought to light and the public at large makes way for more choices in health and overall quality of life. Knowing what the categories of products and how terpenes work together to increase the results one is looking gives power back to person seeking out a breadth of choice as to how to have a healthier day to day experience.

]]>Will it get me high? I heard so much about it but when I tried it, I don’t think it worked. It worked before but not anymore. All these comments could easily point to “wanting to write off CBD” but people shouldn't for several reasons. One of the main reasons for keeping CBD on the short list is a solution hasn't been found to why they sought out CBD or THC products in the first place. What has been tried in the past still doesn’t. To implement CBD into your life there are few fundamental things that one should keep in mind. And that is what CBD can and cannot help with, knowing your goal for using CBD, and how to use CBD for your overall benefit and goals.
What it won’t do:
CBD and/or THC won’t correct glaring lifestyle changes that need to happen. Major example - if a person is using CBD to reduce pain caused by inflammation and is eating high quantities of inflammatory food such very sugary foods then the benefits of hemp or cannabis products will be dampened, or nil based on lifestyle choices. Before declaring that your CBD or THC product did nothing for stress or anxiety make sure to do an honest assessment of external of lifestyle factors and stressors that may be impeding the full use of your plant wellness life.
How to determine your goal:
When adding CBD to your wellness plan always keep in mind your overall goal. Are you adding CBD for pain management or anxiety reduction, do you have a specific medical directive from your recommending doctor that needs to be followed to the letter? Your overall goal guides you on the types of products you should look for and more importantly specifically ask about. It does not help you to buy products that state they will help things you were not looking to help to begin with. Yes, be open to hearing new information because for many people this is the first time navigating these waters, however; do not be afraid to be specific about your personal needs. And if you are not finding what you are looking for, exercise your agency to keep looking. The key is don’t just take what is offer to you if it is not matching your overall goal.
How to incorporate it into your lifestyle:
There are times when people report that products didn’t work or stopped working at some point. To get the best out of your product maintaining a regimen is key. For example, incorporating 10mg gummy each night before bedtime to help with sleep may yield better results than taking a 50mg gummy after four nights of insomnia. The smaller dosage may help your body access the CBD on a continuum rather than a large jolt of CBD to your system. This regimen example can also allow a person to determine how small of a dose to start with. When building and maintaining a hemp or cannabis regimen wise wisdom leans towards start small and build from there. It’s helpful to think - just as one would take a daily vitamin or do a daily exercise routine same time throughout the week brings better results, compared to doing any of these things occasionally. When making your purchase do not be afraid to ask the seller or company for best practices when it comes to usage. Company directions are born out of research and case studies conducted before bringing the product to the market – following suggested directions can improve ongoing results.
How to choose products right for you:
Transparency and inquiries are some of the best tools to help figure out what is the best product for you. Many people from budtenders to business owners have a personal relationship with the plant. Their journey is also filled with trial and trial of product buys and sampling. This knowledge can open the door for a transparent conversation of what you are seeking the plant to do for your body. They have been through or worked with people who have or are experiencing similar situations as yourself. Many in the arena want to assist those who are willing to shake off the stigma and search for a plant-based solutions to either fixing a health issue or improving one’s complete wellness.

]]>Let me say this, we do not sell or touch flower on this site but we are here for all other needs.
Our core goal is to provide access to top products for today’s cannabis connoisseur. A more in-depth backstory can be found on our about page. However, the quick and the dirty on how I came to this space is simple; I was in chronic pain and CBD changed my whole life. From there I knew I had to lend my voice to the many voices who are championing hemp and cannabis as a viable option for people to use in their wellness regimen and life changing treatment. Demas and I strive to be apart of the community of warriors pushing to destigmatize the cannabis plant.
Our story has also been featured on CannabisMD.com and BBC World News.
I know there are a lot of articles about CBD and this may sound repetitive to some but repetition is how we learn. On the other hand this may be new information to someone else. Either way welcome. Welcome to our first HGV post and welcome to information about all things cannabis and hemp and that includes CBD.
Let's start by saying this - the human body has its own endocannabinoid system!
CBD is a short acronym for cannabidiol, which is the chemical compound that occurs in both the hemp and cannabis plant. CBD does not get you high. Meaning CBD does not cause psychoactive effects that THC can cause.
According to studies and reports issued by The American Medical Marijuana Physicians Association CBD has been known to do the following:
Few more facts about CBD:
CBD can be taken via:
Developing a CBD regimen for increased wellness takes some personal tinkering (and consistency once the right combination is found). Just like a workout regimen each program needs to be tailored to the person. For example some may prefer topicals over tinctures, other vapes vs. edibles. That is the reason why we pride ourselves on offering and number of products and delivery methods so one can find exactly what they need for wellness.
When choosing a CBD product make sure you look for products that have been lab tests and certified. All CBD products on our site pass this level of scrutiny before we bring them to consumer. It is important to remember to always consult your healthcare provider when adding anything to your health and wellness regimen.
